Charity Aspect Intended to Benefit Jewish & Arab Youngsters-

There is also a charity component to “Tennis Fantasies Israel.” The event’s organizers are working with the Israel Tennis Center in Akko, Israel to create a new co-existence program for local Jewish and Arab children that involves tennis, families and teachers.

How Tennis Fantasies Israel is Helping-

Because of the donation made by Tennis Fantasies, more than 60 children, their teachers and families will take part in the city of Akko’s first twinned Arab-Jewish kindergarten, an extension of the Coexistence Program the Israel Tennis Center currently hosts in Jerusalem, Tiberia, Haifa, Beersheba and Jaffa.

Fundamentally, the program's activities include motor skill development games intended to improve coordination, balance, concentration, teamwork, sportsmanship and self-confidence.

The larger benefit however, is that the program is structured to enable the children to make new relationships and internalize "peace values".

The children get to know each other, learn to appreciate each others cultures, internalize values of tolerance and peace and thereby help overcome preconceived ideas and negative feelings already being established at this young age.

Parents, immediate families of the children and teachers also become involved -- by inclusion in meetings and activities throughout the year. An extension of this program, and a further vital objective, is to reach out to teachers and educators of the participating children, and involve them so that they too can engage in dialogue and become role-models for partnership and coexistence.

Highly professional staff, trained in the necessary sensitivities, implement these programs on behalf of the Israel Tennis Center, so that the maximum benefit may be gained by the children and their families.

The main constraint the Israel Tennis Center encounters with this program as it relates to Arab populations, is the “political stigma” attached to any kind of cooperation with Jewish populations. This however is a universal problem during any period of conflict, and taking measures within the educational system – such as our proposed program – will help overcome this type of constraint and we hope - eventually eradicate it completely.
